Xerox Secure Print: Your Document's Super Hero

The Super Hero that is Secure Print is: Easier than a cryptogram, More powerful than a snooping co-worker, Able to secure data in a single, simple process, It's a trick!? It's an illusion!? No! It's Secure Print!

Secure Print works by allowing you to assign a password / PIN (Personal Identification Number) to the document when you send it to the printer. The document will not print till you walk up to the printer and release the document to print using the password / PIN you assigned. The secure print feature is activated in the driver when you send the job to print. I have included a sample driver screenshot here but as always models and drivers differ so your screen may look different. To get more information please go to the support page and enter your model number and then search on “Secure Print” to see if the feature is available and if so, how to use the feature.

This is a great feature to use for any document that has sensitive information, for example documents containing credit card numbers, social security numbers, confidential work product, medical information or simply your weight. It will also keep the office snoop (you know every office has one!) from reading your documents. Short of Invisible ink, which we do not have for our printers (note to R&D!) this is a great way to safeguard your document. The feature will also keep your document from walking away in the hands of someone else because you will be there when it prints. You can also send several documents to the printer and they will not print till you are at the printer to release them. Below is a video about Secure Print. The video shows a WorkCentre 7525/7530/7535/7545/7556 but the principles are the same for other products that have the Secure Print feature. [viddler id=ed38d23&w=437&h=370] Check out this great feature now!

Building Belief: Marketing's New Model

by Erin Isselmann, Social Media, Xerox PR

When she isn't sharing insights on social media, Erin is an avid fan of pop culture and mom who is always learning new ways to juggle.

Christa Carone, Xerox's CMO recently blogged about her experience as a member of the Arthur Page Society and how their new marketing model has helped to shape the Xerox brand repositioning effort.

I have to admit, this is one of the first marketing models that has captured my attention in a long time. As a B2B marketer, I look for ways to tie marketing efforts to real world business results. The idea of forging a shared belief with our customers was not something new to me; what was different was that now we have strong two-way engagement platforms to see this strategy in action every day.

In previous roles, I have started each day with a least an hour spent on email (mostly internal). Now, I spend the first part of my day, looking for insights to share with @XeroxCorp's Twitter followers, then I quickly move to check and see how the latest blog post is doing. I want to know if people have found the blog interesting enough to share via LinkedIn or Twitter and most importantly I look at the comments on blog posts. It is wonderful to open a comment and see that a prospect or customer has benefited from our perspective.

I bet the changes in my behavior are not all that unique. Perhaps by focusing on forging a shared belief with our customers, we are freeing ourselves.

5/17 #SecChat: Xerox Discussing Embedded Device Security with McAfee

By Breanna Banford, Social Marketing Specialist, Xerox Enterprise Business Group

With more and more devices being connected to the internet, how much of a threat do you believe they pose to the enterprise, and what do you consider is the most concerning threat to these devices?

Answer those questions with Xerox and McAfee on Thursday, 5/17 at 2 p.m. EST/11 a.m. PST. Xerox will be collaborating with McAfee during their May security tweet chat.

Xerox’s security experts, Larry Kovnat (@lkovnat) and Doug Tallinger (@dtallinger) are looking forward to participating with McAfee this month (@McAfeeBusiness). They’ll offer their point of view and respond to your questions related to embedded device and printer security.

Join the discussion on the 17th by following the #SecChat hashtag on Twitter, TweetDeck or TweetChat. Here are a few things Xerox is interested in learning from you during this #SecChat:

What are your policies around securing embedded devices?

Do you include printers in your embedded device security strategy, or are they treated separately?

What risk do printers pose relative to other embedded devices? How do you deal with it?

Also, stop by McAfee’s blog to see more details – and be sure to keep an eye out for their recap post following the #SecChat in case you missed anything.

Let us know what you think – looking forward to tweeting with you on Thursday!

Xerox Testing the Effectiveness of Twitter from Drupa

Written by Howard Fenton
Senior Technology Consultant
NAPL

The importance of social media and internet marketing in your sales efforts is controversial. Some argue that selling graphic arts services requires a hands-on approach with face-to-face meetings. Others argue that you need to be easier to find, faster and more convenient to work with and constantly touching your customers in multiple ways (email, social media, mobile). Xerox will test that theory at Drupa.

An article entitled "Twitter for Business? 16 Compelling Reasons" posted on desk.com makes the argument that Twitter makes good business sense. The article talks about how Twitter is an important social media tool in this new age of sharing information. It is a low-cost marketing tool, fast to work with and real time for customers. It takes advantage of the business requirement to multi-task (many people have twitter feeds scrolling on their computers), is more effective for networking than emailing, it helps identify influencers and it helps you spot industry trends.

Another article entitled "How To Use Twitter For Business" from Social media today lists a number of steps to consider if you are going to use Twitter as a social media marketing tool. It talks about how you can use Twitter to poll and engage customers with research questions about what is important to them, build brand awareness and demonstrate strategy (which may become important if you want to sell social media marketing services), increase your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and measure your influence.

But the evidence is not conclusive and there is some skepticism of the value of Twitter. For example, Christa Carone, the CMO at Xerox said at a Digitas NewFront event in New York, "I'm not sure it works for our campaigns and our messaging." But Xerox is testing the effectiveness of Twitter. Joel Basa, the e-marketing manager for Xerox, will post on three Twitter feeds from Drupa:

@XeroxProduction, a main point of access for products and technology;
@XeroxEvents, its global calendar of events; and
@Xerox_DE, a gathering-place for customers in Germany.

Anyone interested in monitoring Xerox posts can search for the master hashtag, #xeroxdrupa.

Are you testing the effectiveness of Twitter to market your services?

Howard Fenton is a Senior Consultant at NAPL. Howie advises commercial printers and in-plants on: benchmarking performance against industry leaders, increasing productivity through workflow management, adding and integrating new digital services, and adding value through customer research.

Investors don't like banks much these days...

There's a lot of reasons why investors are not liking banks right now, not least of which is that shareholder returns are almost -10% per year since 2007, worse than pretty much any industry, according to Boston Consulting Group, as published in the Economist this week. Macroeconomic issues and sovereign defaults lead the list of concerns. Today's bailout of Bankia by the Spanish government almost begs the question of who is going to then bail out the Spanish government?

Add to these worries the ongoing demonstrations against top bank executive compensation. This has now gone well beyond hand wringing. Citi held their annual shareholder meeting down in Dallas, presumably to avoid some of the noise, only to hear a resounding thud when they put executive comp to a vote. And now we say goodbye to the CEO of Aviva, largely over controversy from his pay package. Brian Moynihan of BAML survived but took plenty of heat on this subject. I think this 'market correction' to executive compensation is probably a serious one and one that will see what is often called a 'dead cat bounce' i.e. not coming back anytime soon.

Small Business Printing Solutions for a Mobile Workforce

Aaron Slindee, Marketing Analyst

Xerox Indirect Channels Business Group
With the emergence of new technology the workforce is evolving into a mobile population. The new tools available today enable you to work in the most efficient location whether that’s your home, office, or a customer location. Better yet, there are no longer as many communication barriers thanks to laptops, smartphones, tablets and wireless internet. IDC predicts by the year 2013 that more than 75% of the U.S. workforce representing 119.7 million workers will be mobile.

How does this growing mobility affect small and medium businesses? It puts added pressure on them to keep information safe and secure and to do so at an affordable price. Most small businesses do not have the same resources large enterprises do to build a business-ready mobile infrastructure. Small businesses are more likely to have employees using their personal smartphone or tablet for work which makes maintaining security and synergies with the business network more difficult. Printing from these mobile devices can be a huge frustration since they are not connected to the business network.

A tool that can help… Xerox PrintBack. This mobile printing app is free and will work with both iOS- or Android-based smartphones and tablets. PrintBack enables your mobile workforce to print office documents, photos and web pages from anywhere to the default printer they already use. And the app works on any manufacturer’s network printer or multifunction printer.

Check out the app and let me know what you think. Do you also have ideas on how we can help mobile workers? You can share these too in the comments below.

A Story That Reveals The Cloud. And Xerox.

Submitted by guest blogger, Rob Schilperoort, vice president of cloud product management, Xerox Corp.

Network World’s Brandon Butler shares the story. We had quite a time.

But I’m not here to toot the horn of Xerox. I just know good work when I see it. Brandon hit the nail on the head.

He talked about our “Cloud Coming-Out Party.” He talked Xerox, IBM, HP and what the cloud market means to enterprise customers and small- and mid-sized businesses. My favorite portion of the article (no surprise here), is how Brandon wordsmithed the Xerox cloud position, then validates it with a Gartner analyst. Here’s a portion of what Brandon wrote:

One reason Xerox's cloud business up until now has been relatively stealthy is that the company works through a reseller and channel partner program to sell its "white labeled" cloud services. It's a move aimed at appealing to smaller enterprise and SMB customers.

However, Xerox also does sell directly to large enterprises, which have made up the company's traditional customer base.(Pricing is based on a metered rate based on the amount of compute resources used and duration of the instance. For more detailed pricing, Xerox has created a pricing calculator.)

Dane Anderson, who covers IT outsourcing for Gartner, says Xerox is one of many IT service providers and OEMs looking to tap into the cloud marketplace. One way major move by Xerox to diversify beyond its traditional document management business and into the cloud and IT management was its $6.4 billion acquisition in 2010 of Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), an ITO firm.

The bigger story is that cloud is slowly moving from hype to here-and-now. When it comes to Infrastructure as a Service and its related cloud services, Xerox has 85 customers, as reported in the article.

And the biggest story that’s most relevant to the enterprise and SMB market? Xerox is—and has been—well entrenched in both worlds for decades. Consider Xerox’s (formerly ACS) decades and depth of experience in Information Technology Outsourcing and Business Process Outsourcing, among a long list of IT services that don’t just claim superiority, market leadership and innovation. They’re all proven. And that’s good news for companies seeking a complete cloud they can depend on and trust in, just by knowing the presence and power of Xerox.

I’m not tooting our horn. I’m just proud. And glad the marketplace has a real leader with a real footprint in the world of IT services.

Follow us on the Xerox Cloud Twitter page.
